A spectacular start to the 2008 Olympics yesterday. Can't remember seeing such an awesome opening to any previous Olympics. Glad we're

not hosting it in 2012, that's an impossible act to follow. Wonder who the poor unlucky bastards are that have the 2012 Games ?

They wanted to put on a show for the rest of
the world.
They`ll probably get the most gold medals as well.

Largest ever firework display I believe.

Just a shame Paris didn`t win the
2012 selection.

We`ll be OK. A Spice Girls reunion and a few Pearly Kings and Queens singing "`nees up muvva brown" and you will forget all about 2008.

With out-of-the-box thinking like that Woodman I reckon there'll be no problem in upstaging what China did.

Maybe for the 2012 Opening Ceremony in London, Bilbo and Mirkwood could get together. Bilbo could hook some pipes together into an interesting design and Mirkwood could spray paint them using pretty pastel colors. Beijing, eat your hearts out!

Thinking a little more about that suggestion, maybe it'd be better to just splice together some 'best of' Monty Python bits and put them up on a big screen.

As 1 of the commentators said no democracy could ever compete with what they did, only a dictatorship could use so much of their countries assets for the sake of vanity. I dare say the opening ceremony of the 1936 Berlin Olympics made what had come before look 2nd rate as well.
