Gary Sidebottom.
Good footballer (Swan Districts) from the early 80's, unfortunately best remembered for missing the team bus on semi-final day. Never played for that club again. 64. Not old.

Geezus. Too many dying of cancer especially in Western Australia.

On a personal note, not too many who worked in the iron ore industry live past 80.

Totally OT, but whatever. Last night my mate and I were down the pub, along with his 16 year old son.My mate had to go pick up his other boy, so Alex stayed with me. We got to talking about him getting a job when he goes to uni. Seems all his mates are keen to be lumpers at the local abattoir, hard yakka but the pay is good. I was stunned. Told him about a book I'd read called Fast Food Nation, where the author visits meat workers in the American prairie states. Horrifying conditions, they are mostly Latinos working for meagre wages and all have horrible injuries from the cutters and the heavy lifting involved.
Just thinking about your time as union rep, the mining companies pay good but harsh conditions in the heat and very physical at times. I'm sure you would have seen some risks taken back in the day.
