Default A day at the Ace Cafe

Unless you've got any interest in bikes this'll probably bore you silly. Anyway the world famous Ace Cafe is about 15 miles from mine, they put on days for both bikes and cars pretty much every day and today was Classic Bike Day so off I went round the north circular

Was a good mix of bikes and people, old and modern, big and small, Japanese, British and a few Italian with young kids up to old Grandads and Grandmas in attendance. Also had a few head-the-balls doing wheelies and burn-outs on the road outside.

The venue:

Suzuki GT750, a bike that never added up to the sum of its parts, 1970's 750cc watercooled two stroke triple should've been a monster but ended up a bit boring:

Yamaha FS1E, better known as the Fizzy. I sold 1 of these for 20 quid in the late 80's, they go for thousands now:

Kawasaki H1 Mach III, 500cc two stroke triple that caused a storm when it came out in the 60's, was unbelievably fast for the time but handled terrible:

A crowd appeared to hear it leave, they make a sound like 3 screaming Banshees:

Yamaha RD50M, my mate had 1 of these way back when:

This BSA is either a Rocket Gold Star or a copy, if it's the real deal it's value will be in the tens of thousands I'd imagine, even if a copy still worth a good few thousand:

1970's Triumph of some description:

Another Fizzy and a couple of Fantic Caballeros, the bloke who owned the blue'n reckoned it's valued at 4 grand:

Yamaha RD125LC, used to dream of having 1 of these when I was 14, they blew the competition out the water with 90mph top speed:

Another RD125LC, doesn't look right having an old boy as an owner, They were made for 17 year old learner louts. Maybe he was 30 years ago:

A Triton (Triumph engine in a Norton frame) and what looks to be a BSA Gold Star or copy of:

A Norvin, Vincent engine in a Norton frame:

Not sure what exact model BSA this is but must be late 60's/early 70's:

Norton Commando:

1950's Triumph Speed Twin:

Panther:

Something for monsterman, Ducati Diavel:

Harley:

Honda Goldwing Trike:

Think this funny little thing is for someone in a wheelchair, see a bloke nipping about in 1 nearby:

The real star of the show 25 years old and gives me nowt but grief but love it:

Couple of Cobras:

And the closest you'll get to any gash:

I was interested in bikes for a while when I was a teenager.

I knew a lad that had a bike that must have been a Yamaha FS1E. Whatever it was he had I wanted one as well. The main attraction being it looked like a motorbike but was a moped. Consequently it could be ridden by a 16 year old on a Provisional Licence.

Sadly I could never get the money together and just had to admire from a distance.

Nice report Pen. I remember that 750 suzi well. A guy named Gregg Hansford rode one on the circuit here and won several championships on it. The Green Machine it was known as. In the eighties or nineties he switched to racing cars and got killed in a smash.

Which only goes to show,

Yea the GT750 or The Kettle as it was otherwise known as was pretty tame as standard but could be tuned into a real rip snorter. Suzuki made a racing bike based on it called the TR750 that was rode by the likes of Barry Sheene.

But I wonder if the bike the chap from down under rode was called The Green Machine if it was a Kawasaki being as green was their race colour back then. Kawasaki made a 750 air cooled two stroke triple called the H2, big brother to the H1 I posted a couple of pics of. They were often turned into race bikes but Kawasaki also made a full on race bike which was watercooled called the KR750.

Thanks for the pics mate.

They had a bike show here in AC last Saturday with Lower Fields Ave getting closed. I had plans of taken my big Nikon along and getting lots of pics. Would have been Harleys everywhere.

Guess who got pissed up on Friday night and missed the whole thing??

Nice pics, Thanks.

Goldwing Trike looks neat, have to see what the missus thinks of driving one of those around whilst I sit in the armchair passenger seat, travelling from bar to bar in comfort.
