Macbook meltdown
My friend booker brought his USA macBook to pattaya , and it has stated to melt by the screen and keyboard ,, we took it to the local Apple dealer who says this is common fault caused by electrical voltage spikes but is not covered by warranty.
What should he do the machine is working but it looks like shit.

Have never had a problem with mine before? But I know there has been some issues with the power adaptors??
If it is down to voltage spikes at the mains if he doesn't use it whilst it is charging he shouldn't have a problem with it??? It can't be voltage spikes from the battery? |

Monster check the link out, apparently it's not unheard of because there's pics at the link of another MacBook melting...maybe your friend's got a case for a replacement, since others have melted too.

He'll have to take it back to where he bought it as long as it is still within warranty. You've zero hope of some shop in Pattaya honouring a USA warranty !
Could it be because the USA is expecting 110v and Pattaya has 240v ? Some transformers only bring it down to the 115/120v and I know that years ago, some Japanese equipment had serious problems with USa shift transformers which were not accurate enough.

I will pass the info on but he has retired here permanently . But apple thailand admit the problem sometimes happens to locally sold machines as well so there may be an issue.
