Thanks everyone for the helpful advice.

I've done my best to make sure my computer is running optimally. My main worry was that I had done something to my PC that was causing this.

However that thankfully is not the case. I contacted my ISP today and after several phone calls with them they have established that there is some fault with my home phone line and an engineer will need to fix it. Glad thats sorted out. Thanks
