He is not really a 5 furlong/1000 metre horse although he has won at Group 1 level over that distance here in Oz. Usually wins over that distance early in his prep.
6 -7 furlongs is his go & has even won over a mile. This is what he did to the best 3yos in the country last October in the Caulfield Guineas over a mile. Won at 15/1 with old Bazza's $25 on him As always when I win I usually blow it on the next race or end up giving it to some little floozie in LOS. |

From the UK racing post
Starspangledbanner´s progression since he made his British debut over this C&D in May has been fantastic and he once again proved very popular on this drop back from 6f. He was drawn on the outside in stall 13 and, racing alone towards the nearside, got markedly outpaced through the early parts. He showed his class when finishing strongly inside the final furlong, but the winner was gone beyond recall. Ultimately dropping back to this quick 5f found him out, but he probably wasn´t helped by racing where he did and he continues as Europe´s leading sprinter. |
