Me and some mates are making tentative plans for the World Cup in Oz next year.

Looks like were going to be in Melbourne on the 2nd of November for the England v Australia game. With England v NZ on the 8th in Sydney.

We are going to base ourselves in Pattaya for the week before and fly into Australia for the period when the games are on. Then retire to Pattaya again to lick our wounds.

Any suggestion to what the best (cheapest!!) flight options would be from LOS to Oz and back again, and for the internal hops?

I`ve been to Sydney a couple of times and can find my way about there. Specifics for hotels and boozers in Melbourne can wait a while but general advice about the best areas to hang out and what to see would be greatly appreciated. We would probably be in town 2 or 3 days.

The cheapest at the moment mate is with www.jetstar.com.au (budget Qantas) to the east coast,they fly direct from BKK to Melbourne and domestic to Sydney.

Air Malaysia is often the cheapest of the big airlines, but the planes are full of raggies.

I would think booking through a bucket agent well in advance would be best.

Melbourne and Sydney are both exxy for hotels, the best deals are probably just out of the city. In Melbourne try South Yarra (close to the MCG, South Melbourne or St Kilda. Sydney my favourite is Coogee Beach, easy bus to the city and SCG.
Just be sure the game isnt at the Olympic Stadium, well out of town.
