One for Bazza for the Cox Plate
Mull of Killough E/W can get 50/1 with the bookies here

To be ridden by my favourite jockey, Steve Arnold
I usually have $20 e/w every time he rides in a Group 1 and will do the same here. Will get 100/1 plus on Betfair by post time Got no hope but gets a run coz it was invited by the race club I shall be backing Fiorente with a saver on Green Moon I don't know if you noticed but only 4 of the 14 runners were actually bred in Australia. It will be the same in the Melbourne Cup in less than 2 weeks time. English, Irish, French and German horses dominate here in races 1800 metres and beyond. Not just the Group 1's but normal Saturday and weekday races as well. Bit of a shock last Saturday, when the Australian bred Fawkner won the 2400 metre Caulfield Cup The Australian breeding industry is all about speed, speed, speed. To be fair Darley and Coolmore have brought out sires to stand in Australia like Street Cry, New Approach, Authorised, Galileo, High Chaparral, Dylan Thomas, Holy Roman Emperor etc to boost our staying stocks but other than High Chaparral & Street Cry, they do not get much support. Owners & breeders here do not want to risk breeding a stayer, have to wait until it it is 4 or 5yo to mature and find out that it is no good. Better to buy proven horses out of Britain, Europe & New Zealand. |

Baz, is betting in running/play still barred in Australia? If it is, what chance the new government will reverse the law?
