Melbourne Cup

My fancies are Protectionist and Mutual Regard, already picked up a nice few quid when MR won the Ebor and it is a group quality horse and Murtagh has booked an Aussie jockey so no nightmare rides fingers crossed.

Happy Ryan on Protectionist and about time to see if he can deliver one in the big race.

Red Cadeaux should also run a big race.

I have left all the obvious ones out at the top of the market as I always like to find something at a bit of a price.

Initially I liked Protectionist. Ticked all the boxes. Import (German), Son of Monsun, one run in Australia, one word name (I am not kidding) BUT every fucker on Sky Racing TV here tipped it so that put me off.

Gone a bit left field here and picked two older horses. Cavalryman & Willing Foe. Both Godolphin hoses trained by that Arab bloke. They have been coming here for nearly 20 years trying to win the Cup but without success. Bound to win one eventually (Look at A.O.Brien winning the Cox Plate. His first in Oz). Another omen is Darley Australia this year changed their name to the international Godolphin brand.

And the best news is they have two excellent Australian/Kiwi jockeys on board. Williams and McDonald. Both have won just about everything EXCEPT the Cup.

I can see the stars aligning here

Being a battling pensioner now I have to be careful with my shekels. $25 e/w on both and boxing them all ways in a quinella and trifecta with Admire Rakti, Lucia Valentina and Signoff.

Only hope is that Protectionist (German), Admire Rakti (Japanese) and Siesmos (Italian trainer) are not the first three over the line.

Will have to call out the troops if that happens

Which is more than can be said for two of the horses.
