Betong itself is easier accessed from Malaysia. The road from Yala is an absolute nightmare hence my comments about it being remote. If you're down that neck of the woods (Penang/Butterworth) then it would be worth the trip. Betong itself is pretty safe though and the police/army presence was negligible.

So where would the areas be to absolutely avoid ? Pattani, Pattalung, Narathiwat ???...Seems Narathiwat has a bit of trouble .

Pattani, Narathiwat and Yala in general are best avoided. Phattalung is OK but not a lot happening. The islands off Satun or some of the beach areas (Khanom) near Nakhorn Sri Thammarat are worth a visit. The islands off Satun can be done by the Tigerline Ferry from Phuket/Lanta/Phi Phi to Langkawi.

Very nice report thanks for posting. Not too fond of the girls though if this is the best the place has to offer I'd rather stick to Bangkok and Pattaya prossies

I enjoyed the report Tom. Much appreciated. Always good to read and see another side of Thailand.

That is something I guess we should all do more often but I know that once Pattaya gets hold of your regular mug punter (read me!!) the we are sort of fucked.

Maybe next time.....

That "old" Panny FZ50 takes lubberly piccies.

I always seem to be hearing about bombings by the local miscreants down there and people getting killed or injured on a regular basis :2guns:...:mafia:. Where are the danger areas and how safe do you feel getting around ? I'd love to do a road trip down there as it does look beautiful , but im a little nervy about their troubles.

You'd probably have no trouble moving around the south of Thailand Yusamile :ylflower:. If you're the same as Tom (treating the Thais with respect, blending in and not drawing attention to yourself, etc.) you'd be safe there. Tom and I met once in Pattaya when we worked a successful undercover sting on watch vendors selling knock-offs at Royal Garden :jail:. As Tom was leaving :patters: to head back south, I was able to snap this photo of him (hope it's okay to post it here Tom)... :burka:

It's all about blending in with the locals, Yusamile. :ylflower:
