"The World At War....Stalingrad"

IMHO...from the bestest series about WW2..."The World At War"...featuring Sir Laurence with the narration....chapters 1-5 of the epic battle for Stalingrad.

Funnily enough the Stalingrad episode of World at War was on BBC2 yesterday according to the telly guide.

Not being anti American but it amazes me when Americans and sometimes British claim that "we won the war" when 80% of all German casualties were sustained on the eastern front and battles like Stalingrad and Kursk totally dwarf anything that went on in the west.

If your interested in the war on the eastern front you should watch a Russian movie called 'Come and see', I bought it a couple of years back. Probably the best WWII film ever made.

I read the book about Stalingrad by Antony Beevor while on my last trip.
Amazing what they all went thru.
I think you will also find a hell of a lot of the casualties on both sides were down to the conditions.
Also didn't realise that up to 50,000 Russian national fought for the Germans.....:wtf:
Great book, well worth reading.

The Romanians main war contribution apart from their oil was to fail to hold their line outside of Stalingrad and allow the Soviets to encircle the city, useless fuckers.

who knows how many civilians died...anyones guess...the listing left off all the military/civilian deaths in the PI, Malta, North Africa, Burma and the rest of SEA and a whole bunch of other areas that will come to mind in a minute or so....a flawed listing for sure.

The book will tell you the real reasons why Pen.
Lack of food, clothing, weapons, ammunition.........
They only had 3 anti-tank weapons between the whole army!
They were under-nourished and emanciated, the Russian spies were right when they said the Romanians were the weakest point of the front line.
