Airport to Pattaya options

A few ideas on how to get from the airport (Suvanabhumi) to Pattaya (Disneyland for adults:shocking:).

Please feel free to add any pertinent comments.

In the old days I used to get a bus or taxi for Don Muang to Ekamai bus depot and the Pattaya bus from there. Took at least 3 hours all up, you had to cross Sukhumvit with your luggage, and you stuck out like a sore thumb amongst the locals.
On the way back I took the aircon bus direct to the airport. Thats still one way to go, but with the new airport running smoothly now, its hardly worth backtracking to Ekamai and waiting for the slow bus.

So...when you exit the customs hall, bags in hand and ball-bag bursting, you will be greeted by dozens, if not hundreds, of taxi touts. They will spot you before you spot them. The dazed look on your face sends them into a feeding frenzy. By all means, use one if you wish. DO NOT PAY MORE THAN 1800B. Just bear in mind, that if the driver is from Bkk, he will very likely not know his way around Pattaya, so you'll have to navigate for him. Its bigger than it looks on the maps.

Here's hint...if you're arriving late at night or in the wee small hours and driving down, you'll need to book you hotel from the preceding night (ie: arriving airport 11.45pm on the 23rd, get to Pattaya around 1.30--2 am on the 24th, book your room for the 23rd) and ensure the hotel knows what time you're due in, specify that they tell the night manager, send a confirmation email before you leave home with the booking email they sent you as an attachment, and carry a copy of their email to you in your cabin luggage. Have the hotel phone number so the driver can call them. This is Thailand, things fuck up.:surrender:

Many regular visitors have a regular driver to meet them at the airport. It is what I recommend you do. Prices vary, service is usually excellent. The driver will be waiting with your name on a piece of paper. Sometimes motorway tolls will be included, sometimes not. Sometimes you will think they are, but the driver will ask you to pay anyway. (I deduct it from his tip if he does). But from the new airport there are only a couple of toll booths, so its a moot point really. So here are a couple of contact email addy's.

Mr Toom. toom39@msn.com

A lot of guys praise mr Toom, a few bad reports as well. 1200b including tolls.

Mr Dang. ja_jar24@hotmail.com

I've used Mr Dang the last three trips, as well as taxi services in Pattaya when I've needed to commute somewhere. 1000b, nominally  including tolls.

Remember these guys are the so-called "taxi mafia", they are not the actual driver. The driver pays a commission to the boss out of what you pay him. The drivers are usually good and will know where your hotel is, or at least the soi its on. By the way, dont expect a "taxi". You could be in anything. Last Christmas I got driven in a brand new Citroen saloon with the adjustable suspension.:donatello:

Jan and Paul. catsmad@yahoo.co.uk

Paul is a farang guy whose wife Jan provides a driver service. She speaks good English and can be very helpful. Her price of 2000b includes everything, even beer waiting for you in the car.
At the moment she is expecting a baby, so may be out of action until around November 2007.

Many hotels offer a chauffeur service when you book your room. Not a bad idea if you're coming in late. Just make sure you're happy with the price.
The Dynasty group provide a free courtesy bus if you stay 2 nights in their Bangkok (soi Nana) hotel and then go to their hotel in Pattaya.
http://www.dynastyinn.com/

A cheap hotel in a good location is the Globetrotter. Lars can arrange a car for 1300b, but the hotel reception closes early (around 11.00pm--midnight)
http://www.globetrotter-thai.50megs.com/

One last word on tips. 100b is probably sufficient, although I tend to give 200 if I'm happy. Consider this: an office worker with computer, literacy and numeracy skills gets about 15b an hour for a 40--50 hour week. Think about that before you start flashing a wad of play money to impress the girls.

Here's a useful link:
http://www.bangkok-city.com/airport/trans.htm
Info on taxis, and it mentions the Airport-Pattaya bus, but gives no details of where to get it or when it runs. Like I said, This is Thailand.

Here's a cut and paste of Bazzap's report on the Blue Bus. An excellent alternative for the cheapies. Thanks to Bazz.

I used the Blue Bus (Bell Travel Service) in August.

Good post.
I would second the recomendation of arranging airport to Pattaya transport beforehand.

Before I knew any better I used the awaiting taxi mob at Don Muang, maybe just unlucky but took too long to actually get a taxi and one time the driver didn`t even know where Dynasty Inn soi13 was!

Could be wrong here but I believe Jan charges 1600bht from the new airport to Pattaya, having dropped the previous 2000bht rate from the old airport, still more expensive than the others but IMO a good service, knows Pattaya well and is a pleasant person to chat to,making the run down to Pattaya fly by,good safe driver as well.

Mr Dang I had not heard of(thanks), I gather from the comment that you can use his service for visits to other places(e.g. to get to the place where you catch boats to samet) while based in Pattaya yes?

Thanks for the update Roamer. at 1600 I'd say Jan is good value...2000 was a bit OTT, IMHO.:disgust:

Same thing happened to me, I had to show a driver from DM how to get to soi 13, but I forgot about the one-way. Ended up lugging my bag to the hotel.:nopity:

Mr Dang has the taxi stand at the top of soi 13, outside the camera shop. His prices can be negotiated, I like to beat him down and tip the driver the difference. eg, he wanted 800 to go to Nong Nuch, wait 3 or 4 hours and come back. We settled on 500 (still not cheap, but I'm a lame dupe:flex:) and I tipped the driver 300.

Buses from Pattaya to the airport and vice versa (information gathered from a variety of sources)

Email Sirisong at rrc_bus@hotmail.com with flight details/ arrival time & she will book you a seat on the express coach to Pattaya. Costs Bht150 including minibus transfer from Pattaya bus depot to your hotel.

Bus is run by Bell Travel...........they do a run at 6pm from the airport to Pattaya,i landed at 5pm earlier this month and made the bus so you should be ok.

You could email them or when you land give the girl who accompanies the bus to Pattaya a ring on her mobile 0816204703...........you will need to go down a level from arrivals and the bus normally stands outside exit door 7.

If you give her a ring she will ask you what you are wearing and look out for you.......she wears a bell travel badge.

Office number in Bangkok is 027474673 if you need it.

Timetable:

latest times:

Our bus schedule from the airpot to Pattaya are at
8.00/10.00/12.00/14.00/16.00/18.00.

And the schedule from Pattaya to the
airport/hotel in Bangkok are at 6.00/9.00/11.00/13.00/15.00/17.00/19.00.

Thanks hey you paid same as me for that trip then,I was quoted 800bht for Nong Nooch(wait and return) from some taxi, guess it should have been cheaper.
Enjoyed the time there though.

Thanks torrenova, was hoping someone would put the bus options up.

torrenova 06-15-2007 12:10 PM

I can also arrange total blow out real limo (read USA style limo not a bloody Camry) style thing with any or all legal VIP extras but it comes at significant cost dependent upon your requirements.

I will quote though if someone is seriously interested.

I sent an e-mail request to Mr Dang a few days ago.
No reply yet. Probably just go with the meter taxi if I don't get an answer.
I had a bad experience with Mr.Toom, so won't be using his service again.

Yeah, driver shows up at airport with no money and no gas in his fucked up car. Takes me on a late night tour of shithole areas of Bangkok looking for RPG fuel, which I had to pay for. Car was not well maintained and driver sucked.

jonny 06-18-2007 05:04 AM

guido thats bad! I used him for one trip and he was great. Sent some girl round in a new honda jazz. Comfortable ride and she was very efficient. Called me to make sure I hadn't forgotten I had a flight and told me what time she would pick me up. Was very punctual......

Sa-teef 06-18-2007 09:05 AM

I had two bad experiences with Toom's drivers and would never use him again.
Strike one: Pattaya to Don M run at 4 am. Car was an antique. The dash lights kept going off and he'd bang on the dash to try to get them back on. He was falling asleep at the wheel and I had to keep talking to him to keep him on the road. He was driving very slowly, wandering all over the road and took 2 1/2 hours to get there. Beat-up old Volvo with no plate on the back. Darn near missed my flight.

Strike two: A no-show at Don M on the very next trip.

He ain't gettin' a third shot at me.

Guido and others, I've just looked at my original post....because the software has treated the email addy for Mr Dang as a hyperlink and UNDERLINED it, it may have overridden the underscore between ja and jar......ie the address is ja_jar at hotmail etc. You may need to type it in manually.

torrenova 06-18-2007 10:28 AM

Never had a problem with Toom until last time. One of his picked me up ok at my condo for an early flight to the Uk at the beginning of April. Told Toom at the same time to pick me up 3 days later in the evening. No car or man waiting. Phoned Toom. Spoke to him 5 minutes later and he said the driver told him he had a problem and would be late but was "about 20 minutes away".

I told him I did not believe him or his driver and I could be waiting forever for him to show up. He did recognise the amount of business I put his way from me personally but I told him that had all gone now as I could no longer recommend him.

The problem is that he went the way of all the rest. They start off ok, then actually become very good. Then they get too much work and they farm it out to people who are not up to scratch. They do their best to hold the operation together but eventually the glue and sellotape give way and it falls down like a pack of cards.

So how can you avoid this ? Down to us blokes I'm afraid. If you pay enough for the round trip to the airport then someone sensible would set up a business but if you want new cars, safe cars, serviced cars, drivers who are not on drugs and have actually been to sleep in the preceeding 24 hours then you will have to give up your Bt1000 or so trips and look for Bt2000+ trips to the airport.

Agreed, anyone know how much for a Limo service to Pattaya at the new airport?

smullenpe 07-12-2007 01:21 AM

Jan charges 1600 from airport to Pattaya and 1400 from Pattaya to airport. Fork must be confused with Jan's charge since I wrote that I gave her 2000 but was worth much more.

I hope Jan is ready to pick me up in November.

soi 2 07-13-2007 10:28 PM

I have used Mr Sunny a few times and always found his cars and drivers to be OK. 1,200 baht all in for the expressway from the airport to Pattaya. I would use him again and certainly recommend him to anyone else.

http://www.sunnyonline.com

I used AKE TAXI THAI SERVICE last time to get from Pattaya to the airport. Located at the junction of soi 4 and second road. At the bottom of the stairs to the Crocodile Bar. I was quoted 860 baht. I guessed correctly this wouldn't include tolls. The driver who picked me up spent a while doing u-turns on Sukhmwit Road looking for a petrol station where he could fill his tyres up with air. Eventually he found one and headed to the airport. He drove I would guess at a steady 55mph. The journey took a good two and a half hours. Never again.

Guido13 07-15-2007 03:26 PM

I used this service in June.
http://edpod.5gbfree.com/MainPage.htm

Good car and driver, 1100bht all in(June Special), 1200bht is the normal price.

TheFoxhat 09-05-2007 07:49 AM

Cheers thanks for the S/P as a friend of mine that we go with to Pattaya just always gets collared with the Mafia dudes & we get shafted with them & their Poxy prices.

I used the Bell Travel bus last week...Not for the first time...Bus left the Patts 9.15am and we was at the airport 10.30am...That was the fastest I ever done that trip...Even after, they picked me up from my hotel at 8.30am..
For 150bt its an excellent servis....

roamer 02-29-2008 01:06 AM

I`d second the Bell Travel bus service recommendation, used it again
on my incoming journey.
Comfy recliner seats, seems just as quick as taxi, stops at pattaya bus station, then transfers very quickly to minibus that takes you straight to where you`re staying.
The taxi mafia hate it,I had a few minutes wait for the bus to leave
and nipped outside for a ciggie, got approached by a taxi tout
said No Thanks I`m taking the bus, wanker tried to tell me it was a con and it wouldn`t take me to Pattaya.
It isn`t - the service is spot-on.
The 2 Bell travel reps wait opposite the tourist police booth
at gate 7 of departures,so 1 floor down from when you`ve cleared
passport control and picked up your case, easy enough to find.

Just found this on a website for one of the condo agents. Don't know how accurate it is, but might be handy...

Easy transportation from Pattaya-Bkk-PattayaThere is "Suvarnabhumi bus" from Suvarnabhumi Airport-Pattaya & Pattaya-Suvarnabhumi Airport. The bus directly ends at Chaiyapruk Road, Jomtien Beach and this road is very close to "Jomtien Beach Condominium". So it is very convenient. Cost of bus ticket is 119 baht. Apart of Suvarnabhumi bus (yellow bus), there is also "Rung Ruang bus" from Airport-Pattaya & Pattaya-Airport. This kind of bus ends at bus terminal, Pattaya Nua.The timetable of Suvarnabhumi buses areAirport - Jomtien : 6.45am, 9.15am, 1.15pm & 5.15pm Jomtien-Airport : 9am, 1pm, 4pm & 7.30pmRemark - The timetable of bus is changeable. Only if you want to pay well over the odds. I've never understood why people feel the need to book in advance unless there's a pile of them and they need a minibus as there are plenty of taxis waiting at the airport night and day. If people prefer to pre-book thats up to them but there are plenty of options a damn side more competitively priced than those soi 14 ripoff merchants.

 If you're considering the penthouse option make sure you're mainlining scotch from the moment your plane takes off, that way you may actually have beer goggles on thick enough that the 2 'kittens' accompanying you might look half decent.

Alternative to the scotch :jeep: would be 2 paper bags.

or if you are economising one paper bag

A warning of a section of the Bell Bus Service. Last year a friend of mine was staying at The Nana Hotel BKK and I met up with him ready for our playtime in Pattaya. It was our intention to catch the normal bus to Pattaya and when I arrived at the Hotel he had booked us on a mini bus service at the hotels booking station out the front of the hotel.

Mini bus arrives and off we go, to what seemed to be every hotel in BKK to pick up other passengers. When the mini bus was finally full and I mean full the driver speed down the motorway finally reaching the Bell Bus Depot. Crazy drive and if we had have had an accident we were all goners.

Into a Bell bus and off to Pattaya, no, next stop the Airport to pick up the arrivals. Then off to Pattaya yes at last.

So the trip was more expensive than the normal bus service, far less comfortable at least the first part of the journey, took about an hour longer and the only plus was when we arrived at Pattaya there were mini buses there to take us to our hotel.

From BKK go by the normal bus service, don’t be fooled into any mini bus services as you could be in for a long and uncomfortable tiki tour.

I used Limo Pattaya...1200 b all up, brand new toyota, good driver, waiting where he said he'd be.
FWIW, only 3 people in the queue at immi., bags arrived within 10 mins, golf bag was already there before the suitcase came down the carousel.

Theres a new bus service operating...Roong Reang or summat, I'll check the name...124 baht, pick up / drop off is at the Fair Properties office on Threppaya...very comfortable bus, heaps of leg room, service is every two hours, last bus is 9 or 10 pm. Perfect if you're staying at Jomtien or Pratumnak.
