Calzaghe v Jones

who will win my dosh is on the london born ,welshman with italian decent 12 round decision

penetrator 11-05-2008 02:54 PM

I'll go for Hammersmith Joe by decision n'all. Doubt he'll knock Jones out as he seems to punch like a poof these days what with his hand problems. To think he knocked Eubank on his arse way back when, and Eubank had 1 of the best chins in boxing.

BigBadSi 11-05-2008 03:14 PM

eubank was a top bokther,i agree pen joe slaps a bit the hand is defo on his mind

old crust 11-05-2008 04:09 PM

Calzaghe on points. Hope its not one fight too many and he does hang up his gloves after this one. A true champ in my book.

Thebomb 11-05-2008 05:18 PM

im goin against the grain ere an tippin jones on points.......dont forget how good jones has been or is on his night.....maybe he's gettin on but hasnt had a hard un for years and the magic could still be there..........dont underestimate jones........clever,slippery and a great counter puncher ideal for the way calzaghe come rushin in at a million miles an hour................

Thebomb 11-08-2008 02:47 PM

well i went an put my money where my mouth is an tipped jones to win at 9-4........only put a tenner on it.......hopkins proved the other wk that age is just a number......ive got a feeling roy is gonna win tonight

ROLAND 11-08-2008 04:51 PM

Not bothered about this one, it's a meaningless fight

how can u say that......2 of the best boxers of my generation meeting!!! how can that be meaningless??? they both want to win and will be tryin their hardest to do so........explain to me rolly........this is one of the biggest fights out there........or are u sayin that because you think jones is a "spent" fighter?? maybe so but we will find out later.........i think its got the making of a classic

ROLAND 11-08-2008 05:36 PM

If this was 1998 you would be right Bomb but 10 years on it is too late for it to mean anything, I can't get enthused by it now.

yep....but i dont think joe woulda been a worthy contender back then...he's just started to come on now.....i still think roy has the tools to give him problems though...........jones at his peak woulda beat anyone......but now has he deteriorated enough for joe to beat him??? we will see

ROLAND 11-08-2008 06:03 PM

Jones has been gone for years and can't see him troubling Calzaghe, shame Joe bottled fighting Pavlik as that would have been far more meaningful a fight.

Thebomb 11-08-2008 06:14 PM

i think styles make fights....u seen how hopkins took pavlick apart......i feel these 2 styles have the making of a great fight....

ROLAND 11-08-2008 06:15 PM

I shall record it and watch it tomorrow, in a way I hope Jones wins

Elvis 11-08-2008 08:21 PM

had guy in taxi this morning said he had 50 pounds on jones at 9/4 but he was drunk and seemed a fuckwit :ranting:

Prediction: The result of this fight hinges entirely on how Calzaghe approaches Jones because at this point Jones can not hope to match his activity. In the early rounds against Hopkins, Calzaghe allowed himself to be somewhat hypnotized by Hopkins’ style but once he adjusted it was off to the races. The same pattern emerged against Kessler, though for different reasons. Both are cerebral fighters who like to figure out their opponents before going all out, so the first half of the fight will be a close affair with each enjoying spurts of success – Jones’ with single counter shots and Calzaghe with flurries. Once the fight reaches the seventh Calzaghe will overwhelm Jones with an avalanche of punches en route to a comfortable points victory.

would be a bit strange a white guy from Wales called Calzaghe (check if any in a male voice choir) gets beat by a black yank called Jones :lmao3: :boxing:

Mirkwood 11-09-2008 03:59 AM

I've never taken to Calzaghe.
I remember him when he started. Real big headed tosser. I just don't rate him.

Hope he gets KO'd.

Don't worry mate, you only put a tenner on, by the time you get to Pattaya that'll only be worth 450 baht so no great loss

Bilbobaggins 11-09-2008 11:38 AM

well, 9 out of 13 of us got it right.........
Bomber you are as useless at predictions as you were in the ring :boxing:

it wasnt that easy for the :sheep shagger:

a peak jones woulda knocked him out.......jones was a bit too lazy..

ferocious 11-09-2008 11:54 AM

apart from the blip in the 1st it was a one sided affair... i reckon he'll fight on after this , pavlik is not fighting above middleweight again after his no show against hopkins so he's out unless calzaghe drops down to meet at a catch weight , only tarver and glen johnson really for him or a pointless re-match with jones but i'd like to see him beat up hopkins properly

it was a good exibition Jones was fucked by the 3rd ,some say jones 5-10 year ago would have knocked out calzaghe but 5 year ago calzaghe would have finished jones good and proper, seems Joe has lost his counter punching ability loads of times he could have dropped jones but didnt see the wide open shot.I think Jones knew this was just a money maker bit more in the p[ocket for retirement i think calzaghe will fight hopkins at millenium stadium and get beat that will convince him to hang his gloves up.

btw the undercards were shit

BigBadSi 11-09-2008 04:00 PM

i had a larf at the dawson one too tom
