English food...is it all that?

outside of the traditional English breakfast, Channel eel and Yorkshire pudding....what other food is England noted for?:detective:

All the Englishmen I know are always talking about keybobz, curries, eyetalian or chinkee....food made famous in other countries and usually cooked by people associated with those countries.

I'll give you the sammich....invented by the Earl of Sammich...and it did revolutionize lunch....but what else?:sherlock:

roamer 06-16-2009 05:40 PM

I think you`ve summed it up really.
Outside of the English brekkie and Sunday Roast,
can`t think of much else.

Fish and Chips maybe?

There would certainly appear to be a helluva lot more
Indian and Chinese restaurants here than what might
pass as traditional English food restaurants.

i do like fish & chips now and then , cumberland sausage and mash with onion gravy:thumbsup: , pork pie with pickle :munchies: , pickled eggs in a bag of ready salted chrisps washed down with cider in the pub only downside to that is chronic heartburn and rotten farts next day.....

Pity me Grans dead or I would have sent you an expertly made pie over.

When you have finalized the purchase of the RG, maybe we could put it on the lobby menu.

when i was a kid and stayed at my grans i used to get special treats in my food , she smoked about 5 packs of cigarettes a day and was never without one in her mouth so i used to get ash deposits in my bait sometimes an inch long and if it was soup or cereal there was no chance of fishing it out:fishboot: so i had to eat it:lmao:

As the only Cockney on here (I think) cant allow pie n mash to go unmentioned, and although not my cup of tea jellied eels is something that should be tried at least once.

gkp 06-17-2009 04:45 PM

Where abouts is that pie n mash ?
We had it for our xmas dinner at work lol
Some bloke went to Peckham to pick it up

It looks like the 1 in Hoxton. The 1 in Peckham would be Manze's on the corner of Peckham High St and Peckham Hill St.

gkp 06-17-2009 06:03 PM

Thats the 1 , we used to get pie n mash from Harringtons in the Wandsworth Road but it closed down ages ago.
Where abouts are you from in London ?

penetrator 06-17-2009 06:27 PM

Chingford born and bred, right on the border with Essex. So by rights not a real Cockney as I'm a fair way from the sound of Bow Bells.

Funny.

I always get excited by the idea of a full english in :patters:. Bacon, fried eggs, black pudd....its traditional hangover fare for me.

But after two or three days I've had enough. Bowl of rice and tom kha gai......and a shag to clear the head. dancing

timn 06-18-2009 12:09 PM

Englsih puddings are great;;

jam rolly polly, ,,,spotted dick,(which there is now penicillin for!) ,

rhubarb and custard,,, fruit crumbles, baked apples.

bread and butter puddings.... ,,, beats that foreign muck!

tommiecoughlin 06-18-2009 03:58 PM

how come I don't see items like mutton, deer and quail listed on the English menu?:detective:........don't you guys eat that stuff anymore?:sherlock:

ferocious 06-18-2009 04:03 PM

i think doner kebabs are made of mutton amongst other things , never tried quail but had quail eggs a few times & the closest i've come to eating deer is nearly running one over in my car on the way to work

Down off Soi Bukaow, closer to Klang on one of the soi's that run
up to 3rd rd, I went to an English Cafe/Diner last trip.

Just had cake and coffee it was reasonably priced,
The coffee was good and came in a pint sized cup and the piece
of cake was too big to finish.

Had the full on english menu, bangers and mash, pies, chops and vegetables.

Like I said I cant remember the soi number but coming along Bukaow from Klang turn left at the first family mart and its about 50m up that soi.
