Errr. Well acually there have been a few mis-haps in the fighting fish department. First night together resulted in 4 deaths. :hang:

Normal service resumed now. I didn't know they killed the females as well.

KeeNeow 04-18-2010 07:08 AM

If the males kill the females how the fuck do they breed?

ROLAND 04-18-2010 09:47 AM

Can't someone put Mirkwood in the fish tank ? Would do the world a big favour

Not true - they will usually kill females as well if they aren't ready for breeding.

KeeNeow - They breed in the wild because of the space and hiding places etc. In the home you usually place two small tanks together and get them both in the mood where they see each other. When the female is full of eggs, you put her with the male and then remove her again afterwards. The male will take car of the eggs in his little bubble nest.

Come on lads.

I know we have a giggle about this Mirkys zoo lark.

No fucking about now. I've had a nightmare.

When we bought Porno's squirrel a fortnight ago, we bought something else into the home. A bastard virus. It was either that or one of the new owls.

Fuck knows what it was. Might even be that H5N1 avian flu.

Really I was a silly cunt. I thought you could just pick up what you wanted from Chatuchak market and bring it home.

Of course now I know better. You have to quarantine animals. You can't just bung them together. For starters most of the animals are wild down there. They have natural viruses etc. People won't even take birds to vets in UK in case they pick something up.

Anyway, the result?

Whole lot wiped out in a week. 4 owls, squirrel and worst of all my lovely eagle. I was gutted when he died as he was only one who didn't look sick.

It was weird. They just started by closing an eye. Next thing they stopped eating and drinking. I went everywhere. No bastard vets here treat birds. I got some medicine eventually but the vet told me if you can see a birds sick it's already dead as they have built in mechanism that makes them act well so other birds don't attack them.

Owls are particularly bad to have as pets here because stupid Thai's are scared of them thinking they are ghosts. Chances are NO vet will treat an owl. Reality hit me.
Yeah you can buy owls easy but if one gets sick it will die simple.

Tomorrow we are having a massive clean up with Dettol etc.

No thinking about jumping condo just gutted.

Anyone know about bird illness?

What do you think it was?

I went to Chatuchak today. Saw some cracking eagles etc but I won't get another one until we are 110% sure of where to take it if it's sick.

I've got a feeling everything at that market is walking dead anyway.

Poor things all bundled together. I reckon 75% of what you buy there dies within a week.

Live and learn from this one.

In the old days this halfwit would be in a looney bin and chained to a bed, personally I blame Gordon Brown for this.

Pity. I was looking forward to the 'having Eagles as Pets' thread :kickcan:
