Tommie, interesting clip about the Soviet snipers. Good link - thanks.
If you like stuff like this I'd recommend having a look on e-bay or amazon for Sven Hassel books. Legion of the Damned and Wheels of Terror are a good read. A Danish volunteer to the German army in WW2. Not snipers but in the tanks. Great wartime action re-living the Eastern Front from a German perspective. |

In the 1st book in the series which was a lot more factual and less sensational than the rest half of the characters that appeared in later books died. If you compared the chronology it was all wrong. I used to read the Leo Kessler books which were very similar and claimed to be written by a German guy that fought in WWII. Leo Kessler was the pen name of a Lecturer in History from Hull.........!! Both series were highly entertaining whether they were true or false. I`m going for a root around in my attic because I am sure I still have them somewhere |
Woodman I know what you mean about the Sven Hassel books. The first few books are the best and the chronology of the books would have him in two places in one time. They're still a great read and personally I'd rate the first few as amongst the best wartime books I've read. Imho nearly up there with Michael Herr's - Dispatches.
A book I've meant to read was The Devils Guard. Out of print now and available on ebay. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Devil%27s_Guard If you like Sven Hassel I think this would be a good read. |

Finished it yet Si? :snigger: |
One of the most interesting books i have ever read is 'A bodyguard of lies' written by Sir Anthony Cave Brown. Its about joint intelligence during WWII. The backbone of many war novels are based on the facts in this book.
