Rhapsody in Blue in LA in 84 sticks in my mind.

bazzap 08-10-2008 11:33 PM

When the broadcast of the opening ceremony started here it was as-is with no commentary. I was really enjoying it. Lasted about 20 mins until the local broadcaster cut to an ad break and came back with commentary. It spoiled it IMHO.

In this digital age, I would like the option being able to just cut out the commentary and just watch the show as though I was in the stadium.

And you would not get all the ads either. Here in Oz, Channel 7 would be the worst in the world for bunging in ads at the most inappropriate times. What is it like where you live?

Living here in West Oz were are in sync time wise with Beijing. You beauty I thought but no because of them poxy Septics and their prime time TV we have to watch the swimming finals in the morning. :bigfinger

Whats London going to do? Hold the mens 100m sprint final at midnight?

:ak:

as we are the centre of the universe Bazz, we will hold it at our time and fuck the septics :bigfinger

You're right Woodman, that was a good opening ceremony they put on in L.A.

Bazzap, I read where NBC pushed the IOC for those time changes. Then NBC could show them during prime viewing time over here :usaflag: since more viewers means more money :rich: one way or another. It's all about corporate greed imo.

To make it even worse for me, the morons at NBC decided to delay their broadcast to us on the west coast by three hours and coordinate it with the east coast showing. :fish:

So I knew before seeing it on T.V. that Phelps won his first race, for example.

The coverage here has lots of commercial breaks too. :fyou: ... and the talking heads babbling. :nono:_ :nono:

But NBC did have a Chinese expert on and he was explaining some of what was going on during the opening stuff as it related to China's history, so that helpful. :stupid:

But sometimes I'd just mute the fuckers when they started babbling on too much. :fyou:

I watched baseball and golf today and tonight anyway, I'll get into the Olympics soon though.

Channel Nine were worse, ran an ad just as Miller was catching Thomson out to win the 82 Melbourne Test.

There won't be a London 100 meters, we are only having events that we can sit down in.

One of the joys of living in the Australian bush in those days was that we only got the ABC broadcast. Never seen one day cricket live on TV until 1986. At least there was no ads even if we did have to put up with Norman May

Actually I was listening to "Nugget" the other day broadcasting on the radio on the Bejiing Olympics. He made the point that Australia went into 7 swimming events with the world record holder and never won gold. No Australian male won gold in swimming at all.

I suppose the Government will throw more money at it hoping for better results in London same as they did back in 1976 when Australia did not win a single gold medal.Total bullshit IMHO. Sad to see in a resources rich country like Australia that many places especially in the bush don't have proper medical facilities, the roads are no good, we have water shortages etc etc

I'll get off my soapbox now

bazzap 08-19-2008 01:13 AM

And dare I say it but well done to the GB team. Looking good for 2012.

Just looked at the All Time medal tally

http://www.theage.com.au/olympics/be...8/medal-tally/

Certainly some strange combinations in previous games !! Look at the #95 positions

Great Britain/Germany ? Cuba/United States ?

I am not sure if the #64 position would get a run again either !!

:lol2:
