My broadband has slowed down

In the last 48 hours I've noticed that my broadband connection speed has dropped. Just surfing this site and others I was aware that posts with lots of pictures were taking a while to appear. Then youtube and any video streaming sites were not worth watching due to constatnt buffering.

I went to http://www.broadbandspeedchecker.co.uk/ and according to this site my download speed is 120 Kbps, upload 350 Kbps. Yet if I actually try and download a file the maximum download rate is about 15 Kbps. I am on BT Broadband by the way.

I've run Windows Defender checks and it doesn't seem like I have any viruses or problems.

Whats the best course of action to resolve this problem ?

What is your normal speed, ?? ......can be lots o things from maintenance to server probs, faulty line etc,.....have you messed with any settings ? call your ISP and ask them , they can check your shit for you and see if'n its too lumpy n'stuff,......wow my language is really deteriorating .:scratch:

Cheers for the advice. I'll contact my ISP and see what they say first of all. (I've not changed any settings or downloaded anything recently.) System restore point sounds worth looking into. Not sure what is involved but I'll google it.

It will be worth doing a bit of basic maintenance on your PC to get rid of the shit that is probably cluttering your system. Run Disk Cleanup in Windows ........... it's under Programs/Accessories.

Your speed results also seem a bit weird ...... normally your download speed would be 5-10 times greater than your upload speed.

Buy a new pc they do tend to fuck upp from all the porn we download..................

Thanks everyone for the helpful advice.

I've done my best to make sure my computer is running optimally. My main worry was that I had done something to my PC that was causing this.

However that thankfully is not the case. I contacted my ISP today and after several phone calls with them they have established that there is some fault with my home phone line and an engineer will need to fix it. Glad thats sorted out. Thanks :cheers:

There is one thing I can tell you for future reference.

Sometimes the signal 'drops out' due to power cuts, an easy was to solve this is by taking the power lead out the back of the broadband unit, waiting for 30 seconds, then re-connecting. This usually corrects the problem as the broadband box re-configures itself.

Or as a last resort you could try doing this same with the cable itself that contains the wire which carries the signals, rather than the power lead.

In this case it's a problem 'at their end' but worth knowing what I just said as it often corrects these common problems.

Sometimes you have to keep chewing the ears of the providers, I had problems with the cable TV side of things a few years back and had to keep on at them until they finally discovered that the main signal box that serves my surrounding area had not been set up correctly, as in the signal stength was not distributed properly to my home, which caused my TV signal to freeze and flicker. :oops2:

so glad it's working here, last time I walked all the way here for the same shite as I was dealing with at home

oh wait, home was dead but the coffee shop was like pulling teeth it was so slow
