I just wanted to say hello to everyone and that it is an honor to be part of a community that shares information about a place we all visit for that much needed comfort. My seventh trip to LOS is less than a month away and it is amazing how I still get those first time jitters before every trip. Anyone in Samui in June drop me a little note and I will buy you a beer.

What have the Romans ever done for us?

Some of the more obvious benefits of Woosie membership are,.... Avoidance of physical confrontation in a disturbance whilst still being vocally involved. :Copy of argue: :hiding:
The ability to see everybodies point of view thus reducing the amount of enemies and subsequent possible physical harm.:innocent:
With less enemies comes more friends and the possibility of invitations to more parties, copious amounts of free beers and food with no questions asked.
A more relaxed lifestyle stemming from peoples reluctance to involve you in any thing difficult because you are not physical, you talk to much , and you are always bloated and drunk :drunk: from all the free food and booze. :kicking:

Well, I have pretty thick skin. I rarely take things personally and as far as the Egg and the T.P. thing I think you might have to find someone else. And when you do let me know so I can head down to Crawford and defend the ranch. I will need some notice though as I am in Iraq right now.

Welcome Tex. Are you heading to Pattaya as well?

Thanks for the welcome. No Pattaya this time. I will be in Bangkok for 5 days and then off to Samui for a week. It is such a cool place to relax. The sad thing is that this will be my last trip to Thailand this year as I have not been back to the states since Feb. 2006. I will head back to Texas in November and will not be able to make it back to Thailand until next year. I am torn by different places in Thailand. I do not think I could ever choose between Chiang Mai, Phuket, Pattaya, Bangkok or Samui. I still want to visit some of the other parts of the country.

Hi tommie and welcome.

Hopefully Tex will give you some info when he gets the chance.

I visited Chang Mai once, long time ago so haven`t got much specific for you but enjoyed the visit.
Some lovely scenery nearby if thats your thing.
Did a day trip to Doi Inthanon National Park, home to what I think is the highest mountain in Thailand, rather misty when I was there, some nice waterfalls also.
I stayed at a hotel opposite the Night Market which also was OK for a look around.
If you want bit more info, check out this site
Ignore the retirement stuff, click on "Travel Stories"
then click on Thailand,it will show some Chang Mai stories and pics.

TommyC it's been about 6 years since I was there but the Pornping Hotel was pretty good for taking a guest back and is in a good location close to the market and some bars. Here's a link to it: http://chiangmaihotels.chiangdao.com/pornping/details.htm It was about 1000-1200 baht if I remember right, it's a big tall fucker with lots of rooms, a pool and a disco underneath that used to have freelancers there but remember this is dated info (but maybe their daughters are now 21 and freelancing there...)

Chiang Mai was nice and a good spot to venture out from to do some sight seeing trips, like to the Golden Triangle which I went to, some mountain tribes, ride the elephant into the Mekong river (take a short ride, it's not comfortable!) , see some mountains with waterfalls etc. Lots of travel agents around, I hired a Thai woman (no not for that :fyou: ) she worked for a travel agency, she had a 4-wheel drive, AC, nice SUV. She drove me all over doing that stuff, can't remember what she charged.

I went up to Chiang Rai and stayed a few days there too and if you like laid back that was the place for that in 2001(?) I had a mototaxi Thai guy take me out to knock shops in the sticks there, it was pretty wild . I didn't know what I was doing but it worked out fine so maybe there is a God after all and He watches over fools.
