First of all, I'm a complete novice with torrents - I'm on a Mac and everything seemed to be geared toward Windows previously. However, I've got myself sorted and am using utorrent which works on a Mac and have got the various downloads sorted to view .avi movies etc. What I need to know is about the leechers/seeders thing. Basically, if I leave what I have downloaded in my downloads folder i.e. both the torrent file and the movie/audio files, do I have to do anything else to make me a seeder for those files? I can still see the downloads in utorrent and it appears that there is some upload activity.

the system works as follows.

1, you download a file which makes you a leecher as you are downloading off a seeder.

2, Once you have downloaded the file you are then a seeder and leechers download it off you. If you look through the settings you can limit the number of uploads and max upload speed etc. You can set all uploads to off but the whole point is you are supposed to upload more than you download which is how the network grows

in a word no - you will notice that as you download a file other people are uploading the parts of it you have already downloaded. One you have all the file the uploads continue. In effect you are then seeding.

Gildas,

Thanks. I think I have got the idea. As for the file location for the downloads - I have made a separate torrents folder for them. Does that make sense, or is it unnecessary? Sorry if I'm coming across as a bit of a pleb, but somewhere along the line I didn't quite get into all this new fangled communication stuff. :wheelchair2:

I download from Cheggit and Puretna for the porn and Mininova for the movies.

Is there any other good sites out there I should know of.
